actually I disagree with you on this idea. A 1vs1 would be beneficial, just not in a random environment ...
consider running numbers if you had the opportunity to run a 1vs1 within your own guild ... you could run more effective builds in Guild battles, and tombs from more precise calculations. Sister guilds only can go so far in number crunching, especially if you belong to a tight nit guild like mine. This is where a 1vs1 environment can help guildwars. Not random, not ranked, not famed ... as an accessory to a guild ... sort of a training grounds. My thoughts on this topic.

Well I think there should be a random form of dueling but I agree with you on the rest that it shouldnt be ranked or anything....otherwise being only to fight your own guild members is pretty darn limiting...especially for those with small guilds like mine.

Just make it have no benefit to the contestants other than the fun of just beating up on each other.

I'm not a warrior, (I usually play either a monk, or more often a necromancer as my primary) but I'll still usually offer a duel one-on-one against a member of the opposing team. I have an unorthodox build, and it's always interesting to see how people deal with it.

Actually, I agree with you in that sense. It would be good tool to be able to sparring to tighten your builds.

I suppose I was more focused on two random people getting together for the "Dur, my character can own your character" aspect. Honestly, most people would get tired of it once they figured out that it'll tend to be either an unnecessarily drawn out, totally unfun stalemate or already decided from the start.

Well said, I agree.

From the hints that ANet has given us, I believe that 1v1 will become an option, but I think it will be available within a guild rather than random. Thus, people will be able to do controlled tests and such easily and with cooperation. I think that this will kill a few birds in one fell swoop (if I can mix metaphors )

Thanks for all the replies.

Anyways. There has never been a stalemate when I have been doing 1v1's. Nor has anyone had it decided from the start. And no, it's not wether to be "I can own your character." And it is skillwise. I use no runes, no over 100k worth weapon nor shield. Just skills alone. I feel that the reason so many people say it is pointless, becase none of you have really tried it yet. It is beneficial. You learn from your mistakes, or you know what to do again when the same situation occurs. 1v1 has helped me learn to build upon progress or change in the tactics of a full 4v4, or in tombs as well.

And besides. I have fun discussing builds with other warriors after the fight. Whether I lose or win.

I'm pretty tired of the people who keep saying this and that shouldnt be in the game just because they don't like it even if such option wouldnt really affect them.

"Oh it shouldnt be put in because it's a team game..." or "It shouldnt be put in because it's pointless blah blah blah"

Those are such examples.

People are going to say "That's a stupid idea" when there are threads that suggest a stupid idea.

Welcome to the internet, Eet GnomeSmasher. If you're tired of common behavior on gaming forums, I suggest you log off, because this isn't something that is going to change as long as human beings both have the capacity and the right to a dissenting opinion.

That's funny Sanji. Telling me to log off just because I expressed an opinion of being tired of seeing a type of behaviour. I could also turn it around on you and say that if you think these threads are "stupid" you could also log off and not read or reply to them.

That's my suggestion to you.

EDIT: Also I was not referring to the responses to the OP's invitation to duel but the responses to any suggestion of putting in 1v1.

Not that it changes your response...which was baffling to me why you'd respond that way..

You could, but that's presuming that our situations are the same, when they are not. I will never grow tired of stupid threads. In fact, reading and posting in threads that I completely disagree with is one of my favorite activies in a forum.

I had a 1v1 with another tank once when our teammates died. It was going forever.
I was using conditions, victory is mine, mending and signet, he was using breeze/signet/mending. After around 20 minutes, we decided to take our mending off and try again.
We stood back and removed mending.....but it was still a draw.

Confused, we asked if we should call it a draw, while our teammates (the few that was left) hung on for a few measley points.

He suggested we remove our armour aswell and without thinking, i agreed.

I died because he was using energy attacks and i needed to build adrenaline. lol.

Waste of half an hour but it was great fun.

I don't see the problem here. I strongly support the idea of 1v1 fighting. Personally, I wouldn't use it much. However, I know how much people would like it so why not support it? I mean, if they implement a seperate area for
1v1 then the people who want to do that can go there and the people who find it pointless can go somewhere else and do what they like.

I don't see why there's anything to discuss.

"It's pointless, you learn nothing". Pardon? First of all, I think many people could learn from a good duel once in a while, since even if you're fighting in a team normally, you still can't attack more than one target at once. Second, dueling would be, for those who like it, entertainment. If entertainment is pointless then the whole bleeding GAME is pointless, along with listening to music, watching tv, playing a game of cards or reading a book. Crikey, if people like it, let them do it.

"It's a waste of the rest of the team's time." Ok, point taken. In a 8v8 (or something like that) someone starts a duel I see it can be pretty annoying for everyone else. But there are ways of solving the problem. A) Duel while the others fight. This is a bad idea since most people will kill each other, leaving the duelist to duel forever and ever untill they decide to call it a night. Bad idea. B) Make a seperate place for people to fight 1v1. Ridicoulousy good idea, compared to the other one. The plusses are that everyone can fight without annoying other people, no one has to do something they don't like and everyone gets what they want. The minus is that Anet has to implement it first.

Make a seperate place for 1v1 and it's a win-win situation for everyone, as I see it.

My main concern is that people who wanted to duel find out that it isn't as fun as they thought, resulting in wasted hours of work for the Anet staff.

Oh yeah, if I sounded a little harsh or threatening, sorry about that. I mean no harm. I just don't see why there's a need to discuss it, except that the Anet staff might waste some time doing it. My point is that it's like asking if there should be chocolate cake AND strawberry cake or just chocolate cake. If 50% of the guests like strawberry cake then why not give them strawberry cake? Those who like chocolate cake can eat their chokolate cake and not pay any attention to those eating strawberry cake. There's no reason to think that baking strawberry cake should suddenly make the chocolate cake disappear.

Ok that was my input.
